I finished the skirt!

I finished the skirt!

During this afternoon’s rest time for the kids I finished the denim skirt I have been making for my daughter. It is now in her dresser and ready for her to wear!

I cut two strips of fabric for the waistband from an old pair of jeans. Then I sewed the waistband to the skirt and put wide elastic into the waistband. I had my daughter try the skirt on a couple of times during that process to make sure it fit her well. Lastly I sewed the opening closed where I had put in the elastic and top stitched just below the waistband seam to help keep the seam allowance folded down.

Here’s a picture (not the best quality; I am still figuring out my new-to-me camera):

Now I am looking ahead to the next project to work on in my pursuit of completing the half-finished projects that are filling up my tiny sewing closet.

I want to start working on the rest of the piecing for the quilt I am making for my sister and her husband’s (late) wedding gift. However, once I starting working on the quilt again I want to just work on that and not pick up any other projects until it is done because I need to finish it soon.

As I looked at the piles in my sewing closet after finishing the skirt this afternoon I noticed a pillow form that I want to cover and use in our living room. I have the fabric picked out for the pillow cover so I think I will make that tomorrow.

Then on Tuesday I can start working on the quilt again and try to finish that in a couple of weeks. Getting the pillow form and the mostly finished queen sized quilt out of my sewing closet by the end of this month will make a big difference in my sewing closet!
