I started writing blog posts about my attempts to finish projects that are taking up space in my tiny sewing room about three weeks ago. In that time I have completed a few projects.
I mended a dress for my daughter and finished a denim skirt for her that I had started several weeks ago.
I sewed three book covers that my aunt asked me to make and she picked those up earlier this week.
I turned a long-sleeved pajama shirt into a short-sleeved shirt for my youngest son.
I completed a pillow cover for a pillow form I had in my closet and moved it to it’s proper place on my living room couch.
Finishing those projects cleared a space on one side of my sewing machine table and I was ready to start working on the big quilt project for my sister that is taking up the other side of my table.
However, with the weather warming up I decided to tackle the summer nightgown I am making for my daughter instead of the quilt and I am almost finished with that project.
Then my husband and I had a stay-cation weekend at home to celebrate our anniversary and I only did a small amount of sewing over those few days.
When the kids came home from grandpa and grandma’s house they had colds so that slowed down project progress during the beginning of this week.
On Monday this week one of my long-arm machine quilting clients dropped off a quilt top and backing for me to quilt for her. That will be in the space I cleared by finishing the living room pillow until I quilt it and my client picks it up.
Also this week, my daughter started learning how to use a Knifty Knitter and the best place for her to store that project when she isn’t working on it is in my sewing closet. I am realizing that I do need a small space for her project in there. She will be six this summer, so this is her first handicraft project.
I would like to help her start one project and complete it before beginning another. That is a habit I obviously need to work on myself, so her and I will be learning that one together!
So now there is a pile of projects-in-progress where I cleared away the last pile, but I think that is just going to be part of this process. Until I finish enough projects and declutter the items in my sewing closet that I am not going to use, there are going to be piles.
Now that the kids are over the worst of their colds I am looking ahead to the next couple of days to see where I can best fit in project time.
After the kids are in bed tonight I am going to finish sewing the eyelet trim onto the nightgown so that project will be out of the closet hopefully by the time I go to bed today!
