Decluttering my sewing table

Now that I have finished another project, I took 15 minutes after settling the kids for rest time to focus on decluttering my sewing table (affiliate link).

Last week I had managed to finish the projects that were in the pile on the table next to my sewing machine, but then several more items piled up there again.

Today, in just a few minutes, I was able to put away the patterns and pattern pieces that were in the pile from the nightgown project. There were some papers with notes about quilting patterns that I didn’t need anymore, and I also put away a few pieces of extra fabric.

I sorted through the items in a small basket I have for pens and scissors on the sewing table, and put away any miscellaneous items that weren’t supposed to be in the basket. I also emptied the jar that I use for small scraps and threads that are trash and wiped off some dust and threads that had gathered under the containers.

Here is the result:

On the other side of my sewing machine – not pictured in this photo – is the nearly finished quilt top for my sister’s wedding gift. That is my next project to tackle and I am going to work towards finishing the entire project, all the way to binding it, by the end of May.

One challenge I am having with the quilt project is the fact that I haven’t worked on it for about six weeks. When I let a project sit for that long I start to make the project out to be more difficult in my mind than it actually is.

That means I need to just jump back in tomorrow without overthinking it! I have the fabrics cut already and stacked in rows according to color so I should be able to get the material out, double check which row I am on, and start sewing again.

If I keep working on it each day again, I shouldn’t get the mental overwhelm that happens when I take too long of a break.

Photos and updates to come as I work on the quilt and continue decluttering and organizing my tiny sewing closet!
