I made a mistake somewhere in the last row I worked on piecing for the heart quilt.
Today I got back on the proverbial horse and figured out went wrong.
I measured, and double checked the pattern, and measured again and finally found the problem.
Eight pieces in the row were supposed to be cut in 5-inch pieces and I had cut them only 4.5-inches. So that made the row four inches too long.
As I was trying to figure the situation out, I remembered that I had dealt with a similar issue several rows back in the quilt. Sure enough, there was another row on the pattern that I had crossed out 4.5″ and put in 5″ on my notes.
Unfortunately, when I fixed that row it did not dawn on me that there would be another row like it later in the quilt, so today I had to fix the same problem again.

To fix this, I grabbed my seam ripper and took out the several short seams in that row and kept the pieces that were the correct sizes.
After that my 22-month old was still sleeping, and I was worn out from our busy morning, so I put the quilt project back in my sewing closet and laid down for a short nap myself.
This evening or tomorrow I will cut the 5″ pieces and work on piecing the row back together so I can continue on with the quilt top.
Even with this set back I still have plenty of time to meet my goal of completing the piecing, long-arm quilting, and binding by the end of May as long as I keep doing a little each day.
I am happy with the result of my efforts today to continue consistently working on this project even though it wasn’t going smoothly.
Putting time into a project without over-thinking how well it is going is something I need to keep doing as I build better habits about finishing projects.
