I have realized that since we have five people in our house it is very likely there will be one or two clothing items to mend each week.
Today I am starting Mending Monday to designate a day to work on any mending that has accumulated during the week. This will get the pile of mending out of my sewing closet quickly and the items will be able to be used by the family again.
The only item in the mending pile today was one of my t-shirts. It had a small hole near one of the shoulder seams.
My rule of thumb is that I mend a tiny hole before I wash the garment because I don’t want the washing to make the hole bigger.
This means if I don’t get the mending done promptly I won’t be able to the shirt again for while. My t-shirt selection is limited as it is right now, so I can’t let one sit in a pile for weeks.
Because I didn’t need to use my sewing machine to mend the shirt, I stitched up the hole by hand at the counter while I sang songs to my youngest from his favorite folk song book.
